Staphylococcus lugdunensis is a member of the coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS). It has been increasingly recognized as a virulent pathogen,
responsible for severe infections with an outcome resembling that of Staphylococcus aureus rather than that caused by CoNS.

Single locus DNA-sequencing of the repeat region of the fibrinogen-binding protein gene (fbl) can be used as a useful tool in S. lugdunensis epidemiology,
especially because it is an easy to use, cost-effective and rapid method. Repeats are assigned a numerical code and the fbl-type is deduced from the order of specific repeats.

This fbl-typing Server can be used to collect data from various geographic regions.
